Chairman's Newsletter No. 25

Dear Member,
Tuesday evening was a successful one for us as the 2nd round of the SPFs league resulted in wins in both the prints and pdis. Judge Ian Bigg gave the images the hardest of assessments and was both critical of any perceived weak points and praised those that he considered warranted them. The results were - prints Viewfinders 70 points, Guernsey 63 pts, and PDIs Viewfinders 68.5 and Guernsey 63.

Next week on Monday we have the 3rd round of the league away to Southampton and Beaulieu with Southampton being the host club. They meet at Copythorne Parish Hall, Pollards Moor Road, SO40 2NZ, and it would be nice if we could have a few of us attending, we are all aware that Southampton is one of the strongest clubs in the area but I think we will also get some strong competition from Beaulieu having seen some of their work at their exhibition last year.

On Tuesday we have the Army photographers coming along to give a presentation, and I am relieved to report that they have confirmed that they will be attending.

Looking forward to the Les Fredericks tropies on 23rd Feb, please insure you present 'new work' for both. 'New work' in this case really means that the images have not been seen in either assessments or trophy competitions at the club before.

The notice board. Have you had a look at our club notice board lately? I had a quick look at it on Tuesday and was surprised to seen a list of equipment for sale. It appears that John and Margery May have some surplus Canon cameras and lenses for sale. I have asked for first refusal on one of the lenses, attached is Johns list, please contact him direct if you want any of it.

Hilliers Gardens has another photo exhibition running until 10th March. Called "Our world through the lens" it should have some interesting images to see, you may of course get some ideas!

Regards and keep snapping
Terry

  1. Hello. Please could articles/docs attached to the Chairman's missive be attached here too, for ease of access? Thanks very much.

  2. The so;e reason for not including John May's advert is that is was in the form of an jpg image. And this was a huge file. I felt that some members would not appreciate how long it would take to download.
