Chairman's Newsletter No. 20

Dear Members,
Well here it is the last of my newsletters for 2009, seems like it was just a few days ago we were starting the season.
Last nights pyramid competition produced some surprise entries from previously unseen authors and how nice it was to see them. Jack and Liz managed to keep us entertained, finding some, at times, obscure matching points in both images!!
At one point there were two images with the same number of votes that totalled 2 more than the entire attendance! However well done to new member Roy Brophy who managed to keep Sheila Read in second place, his monochrome image of reflected trees from the New Forest looked good which ever way Jack managed to present it!

Chairman's evening 5th Jan 2010. My guest speaker is Steve Rogers, Project director to The Wargraves Photographic Project. Steve's presentation/lecture is in great demand all over the country with groups of genealogist and other like minded people however he has offered to find out any information/photos for our members. So if you have a particular member of your family who may have died in combat since 1914 or may be a blank in your family history tree please email direct to steve@twgpp.org.uk using the term 'viewfinders request' in the subject box Steve will do his best for you. Steve has access to records that you would normally get charged for so this is an offer not to be missed. You should give Steve as much info as you can about the family member a minimum I suggest is the surname and initials, if possible any known dates/regiments/service/rank etc.
If you want to look at it the website is www.twgpp.org.uk

Holiday project, during this time look forward to next year and think about taking that photo that could be used as the clubs Christmas card for 2010 !

So it just remains for me to say whatever you are doing over the Christmas period have a wonderful time, enjoy the family and friends and look forward to a successful 2010.

To Stan Stubbs, Ray Kemmish and Sheila Budden all recovering from operations/hospital care, a continued speedy recovery and we hope to see you ASAP in the new year.
To Jo and David Horscroft in New Zealand, have a good one!

Take care now and keep snapping!

Terry

Chairman's Newsletter No. 19

Dear Member,
I hope you are not too upset if all of your images were not shown at Tuesdays assessment. With well over 100 images submitted we had to make a decision of where to make the cut off. As you may well be aware we attempt to keep the number of images to be assessed to around the 70 mark in order to allow the judge sufficient time to give each image their best critique.

Barbara Holder made an excellent job of sorting out the best points and gave some constructive remarks that we can all learn from.

Congratulations to all of you who scored well and in particular to George Marsh on his elevation to the advanced class in the digital section, a place we all know he belongs. Again I would like to thank Jill and Mark for the smooth operation we had on Tuesday. Jill had to make a choice on which images we allowed using her knowledge and the position held by each entrant as the main criteria. Now the question arises of how do we handle this sort of problem should it arise again. We have to ask you to nominate your choice of priority when entering both prints and PDIs. Would you please number your images in your preferred priority, there is still a maximum of 4 images in each section so if you prefer your prints to have priority then number them 1 - 4 and your PDIs 5 - 8 or vice versa. The internal competition secretary will still determine how many images will be shown while attempting to balance the two sections.

Next week, One question has been raised about next weeks pyramid competition, as it is a friendly your images will still be accepted into future assessments/competitions. So please bring along any mounted (preferred) prints for this fun evening. There is a surprise for the two last prints left standing.

Reminder. Bring some finger food for the social last hour; not too many sausage rolls eh!

Hope to see you all on Tuesday

Lovely frosty/foggy weather forecast for this weekend, happy snapping
Regards
Terry

Chairman' Newletter No. 18

Dear Members,

Roy and Sue Fisher gave an interesting lecture about their love for their bicycles, they covered so much of the world in the saddle I felt quite saddle sore!

Next year they are riding from the Baltic to the Adriatic, looks like another lecture soon then!

Next week we have the last assessment for this year with Barbara Holder judging, please ensure your entry is sent in before midnight Friday.

Keith Bamber has agreed to organise the Christmas card table for the next two weeks.

Dec 15th is our last get together before our Christmas break, Jack and Liz will be running a pyramid fun competition for the first part of the evening, until about 9pm and then we can have a nice long tea/coffee break and if you wish to please bring along a few nibbles, just enough for two people only please.(Yes thats you and me!) No need for me to say anything about sausage rolls eh!

Regards and keep snapping

Basingstoke Camera Club Annual Projected Image Exhibition 2010

Basingstoke Camera Club Annual Projected Image Exhibition 2010 - Closing date 14 January 2010!

The Exhibition has the same format as last year, in that we're accepting digital images only. However, as before, there's no requirement that a photograph was taken with a digital camera - it could have been taken with a film camera and scanned, for example.

As for the 2009 exhibition, there are four classes you can enter - Open, Nature, Portrait and Monochrome. Please refer to the terms and conditions for the specific entry requirements for each class.

You can enter your digital images either: a) by using our exhibition online entry submission website (the preferred option), b) by email, or c) by post on CD or DVD. No matter how you choose to submit your images, you can either pay by cheque or postal order, or by using Paypal. Please note that you don't need to have or to open a Paypal account - you can simply use the Paypal service to pay by credit or debit card.

Entries received via either email or post require significantly more work to process than those received via the exhibition website. To encourage use of the latter, we’ve introduced entry fee surcharges as follows: Images sent by email: surcharge 1 pound; images sent by post: surcharge 2 pound. If you’re concerned about making payment over the internet, you can enter your images using the exhibition website and send payment separately by post, without incurring a surcharge.

Some people seem to encounter difficulties naming their images correctly when sending them via email or post. If you use the exhibition website, you do not have to worry about image naming and you will receive an email acknowledging receipt of your entry, containing thumbnails of all the images you entered.

See our exhibition website: www.photoexhib.co.uk/bcc, where you can either register for the exhibition or obtain an entry form. You can also find the accepted and award winning images from the 2009 exhibition at that web address.

If you require any further information, please do not hesitate to call me on 01256-764339, or email me at exhib2010@basingstokecameraclub.co.uk.

I very much look forward to receiving your entry.
Yours sincerely,
Steve Bright ARPS
Exhibition Secretary
