Chairman's Newsletter July 26 2009

Dear Member,
An enormous thank you goes to John and Margery May for the showing of their AV's last Tuesday. We saw examples of their work from some of their very early productions upto the latest from a recent holiday.
John's simple, laid back approach came over so well and he answered the questions very well. The two tutorials from Barry Beckham showed just how simple it was to put together a basic AV in 'Pic2Exe'. If you are one of the lucky people who got a copy of the disc please make one extra copy to pass onto other club members.

George Marsh produced a 109 page printed copy of the 'Pic2exe' help file, he has lost it!! If you know of it's whereabouts please let George have it back.
Weymouth Library.
Saturday I took the opportunity to pop down to Weymouth to see the PAGB print exhibition. This display of 150 prints tours around various venues and will be at Weymouth until the end of the month.
Some thought provoking work is there to be seen, some makes me think " how can I get to that standard" and some "I wonder what the judges saw in that" others just made me think "I could do that".
Tuesday 28th
Bar-be-que at George & Margaret Marsh's home. The 5 day weather forecast gives a hope for a break in the rainy weather for Tuesday, so fingers crossed. George will have the 'barbies' going from 6:30pm ish, so bring your own food and drink, chairs and tables if you don't want to sit on the grass. Should there be any doubt on the weather front please ring 01794 301285 to check.
For those who have not been there before the directions to Georges place are - from the A3057 ( Romsey to Stockbridge ) take the turn to Mottisfont, pass the abbey entrance, and turn right just pass the social club into Oakley Road, stay on Oakley Road for about 1.8 miles, this is a narrow country lane, as you get to the top of a gentle rise Pittleworth Cottages are on the right. Please park as close together as possible, car sharing is a good option.
We hope to see many of you and your families on Tuesday if not then I wish you a happy holiday break, and hope to see you all at Stockbridge for the exhibition.
Have a happy snapping time
Terry

1st PAGB Inter-Club PDI Championship

"The first PAGB Inter-Club PDI Championship at Warwick on 11th July was a very successful day and, being the first of this format, it was gratifying to see it happen without any problems on the day. Peter Cheetham and his team deserve our congratulations and thanks, especially for all the preparatory work carried out beforehand, without which the outcome may have been very different." Bits and Bytes

There is a link to a spreadsheet that resides in Google Docs [aka the Cloud] that shows the meanings of most of the manifestations of bits and bytes such as Megabyte. This is in very simple terms but almost everyone will find something they did know before.

"Hi All

Could you please take a minute or two to answer the QUESTIONS on Page 2 of the attached e-news.

I would like to make e-news as good for you as I possibly can and I always welcome your suggestions for improvement. I would also like to get your views about including advertising or specially negotiated offers. (We will never allow these to overwhelm the newsletter nor will we divulge your e-mail).

The next issue in a day or two will feature a report from the PAGB Inter Club PDI Championship at Warwick.

Can I please remind you that I am very happy to include anything that would like to publicise provided it is of interest beyond your own Federation area.

Rod Whelans

The PAGB is very happy for you to forward this e-news to interested parties or you may print it off for display at camera clubs or other venues. Please do not alter it other than resizing if necessary.

We would encourage you to invite interested people to register with rod@creative-camera.co.uk to get their own copies. I am happy to add all of your clubs and all of your club members!
