FCC Spring Exhibition 4/5 May

FCC Spring Exhibition
Dear SPF Club Contact

Fordingbridge Camera Club is pleased to announce their first Spring Exhibition on Friday 4th and Saturday 5th May 2012 to be held in the Town Hall, Fordingbridge. All members of our club are being invited to show at least two of their images, their own favourite and one from a recent Three Counties exhibition. There will also be portfolios of members' work, the clubs inter-club competition panels, wildlife photography and much more. Tea and cakes will also be available.

Taking place that weekend as well is the Downton Cuckoo Fair just five miles north of Fordingbridge on the Salisbury Road. This is a very successful street fair so why not combine the two for a great day out.

Wildlife Photographer of the Year

The City Council is delighted to bring to Salisbury the nationally and internationally acclaimed Wildlife Photographer of the Year Exhibition, which showcases the very best in Wildlife Photography from across the globe. It is an international leader in the artistic representation of the natural world and a competition that photographers worldwide aspire to.

The exhibition, which is organised by The Natural History Museum in London, will run from 20 July – 17 August in the stunning setting of the Banqueting Hall within Salisbury Guildhall.

Exhibition highlights include, the much coveted title of Veolia Environnement Wildlife Photographer of the Year awarded to Hungarian photographer Bence Máté for his image A marvel of ants, a simple shot that captures the complexity of the behaviour of leaf-cutter ants in the Costa Rican rainforest. Máté is clearly a master of his craft with an artist’s eye. Fergus Gill from Scotland was crowned Veolia Environnement Young Wildlife Photographer of the Year for the second year in a row. His image of a fieldfare, The frozen moment, was judged to be the most memorable of all the pictures by photographers aged 17 or under.

Claire Burden, said, “This is an amazing exhibition and a real coup for Salisbury, to coincide with the exhibition we are planning a series of events to complement the theme. Check out our website for details of photography workshops in conjunction with Trinity Photography and other organisations. The exhibition will certainly appeal to keen photographers and wildlife lovers alike.”

Southern Fed Results from the PAGB Inter-Fed Print Competition and Exhibition 2011

Dear All,

Please find attached the results of the PAGB Comp, judged last Sunday by Bob Moore, Richard Walton and John Chamberlin.

We did very well in the Monochrome Section coming 9th this year, last year we came 12th. We had two accpetances in the Monochrome Section, Pauline Thornton's 'Showerman' from Highcliffe & Infinity CC, and John Hodge's 'Contemplation' from Overton PC. Congratulations to you both.

Unfortunately, the competition in the Colour Section was very strong this year, we only came 14th out of the 15 federations, last year we did somewhat better in 9th place. Congratulations to Pete Wheildon whose print 'Gannet returning with present' was accpeted into the exhibition.

Thank you all once again for putting work into the competition, and well done to everybody.

Don't forget we have the opening evening of the exhibition on Thursday 30th June at the Gosport Gallery, full details on the website diary; please give an idea of the number attending to Lynn Lambeth past.pres@southernfed.org.uk

All the best,

Chris

Mottisfont Exhibitions

One of the photographers exhibiting at the Winchester Discovery Centre is local wildlife and landscape photographer, Paul Sansome. He gained a "Highly Commended" for his "Terns in a Queue". I mention this because Paul has a one man exhibition starting at Mottisfont Abbey, tomorrow - Saturday 31 July. The exhibition runs until Thursday 12th August. Note that Mottisfont is not open on Fridays.

I have just come from assisting with the set up, and it's a stunning exhibition.

If you are a National Trust member then entry is free - otherwise normal Mottisfont NT admission charges apply to gain access to the gardens, river walks, house and exhibitions. There is even a new ice cream parlour!

Mottisfont is actually a good day out for all the family. They also have a very interesting Beatrix Potter exhibition at the moment of some of the original watercolours she painted to illustrate her books. Evidently these paintings are only exhibited every ten years or so!

Another one for the diary - Andover Split Image Photographic Society will be exhibiting at Mottisfont later this year - Saturday 28th August to Thursday 2nd September.

Regards,
Roy Brophy
