Dear Members,
Isn't it nice to see that finally spring has started, maybe just a little too late for the Easter break, however the sudden rush of colour in our gardens and the countryside gives all of us a quick lift.
I hope you have been taking advantage and getting the camera aired!
Attached are 3 pages of scores from the friendly match at the New Forest CC and the SPFs Print championship.
New Forest match. Leo Rich started his judging with a grumpy face having been in his garden all day taking instructions from 'senior management' whinging on about having to paint trellis frames and gardening, declaring that the last thing he expects is to give is any tens tonight! The first print on the easel was flowers in and around a painted picture frame...... ten! The evening continued in that sort of frame ( pun intentional) with good hearted banter between Leo and the audience, along with some very constructive critique. As you will see from the scores we allowed the hosts to win both the prints and the PDIs. However I did not help too much by forgetting to include one of our digital images on the disc, so my apologise to Mike Liberson and the club. The fact that the hosts offered to drop one of their scores did not help us even though I insisted that 'the kill' would have got a ten ,they took away a ten and still beat us!
My thanks to all of our members who came along and we just about managed to match them in numbers attending, for a small club they have produced some good work.
Print Championships. Sunday at Littleton was as is normal for SPF functions a good weather day and the new style format for the annual print competition was well attended, the organisation by the host club Highcliffe & Infinity CC and the SPFs was first class. Three judges all from the Western federation worked their way through 440 prints and out of necessity their scores were tight, and I (and several others) found it hard to comprehend the rational at times. Maybe that's why I am not a judge. However as they say the cream came to the top and the two clubs we were up against in the league semi final Chichester CC and Bournemouth PS being first and second. The PAGB gold medal went to Ann MacDonald with Alison Cawley, John Mahanoy and Rosie Armes getting the judges medals. My thanks to all of the members whose prints were used, whatever the scores, they came up against some very high standard images.
SPF league 2010/11. There are some major changes to the organisation planned for next season, although at the moment this may change, it is planned to revise the league into a 'football' type of league system with promotions and demotions within the structure. Currently this is planned as a PDI only league but after Sundays announcement by the league secretary there may also be an inclusion of prints, depending on the response from all the clubs.
Your committee discussed this subject last week and we had planned to make our objections known to the SPF and possibly organise our own 'friendly' print only night with several other clubs. So our planning for next season while well on the way to completion there are still dates to be filled.
Hope to see you all on Tuesday for the assessment
My regards and keep snapping
Terry
